The Rock Climber!

Hello once again and welcome back. Another Tuesday and we are here to talk about art! As I get close to wrapping my first children’s book, I’m looking at what project should be next. One of the problems I have always had to deal with is something I call “Project Envy”. You see, every “next” project always looks 10x better than whatever I am working on. Who knows why? It is hard for me to stay focused on the current task as I am always thinking about how much fun the other projects will be. I’ve tried to battle this by keeping a folder for “Future Projects”, as I talked about last week. Field Notes have also helped. Having a small notebook everywhere I go helps me to jot down ideas when I have them.

As I look into what the next project is, I would like to have a quicker turnaround. Creating a children’s book is an amazing experience but it does take time. Spending time creating a few single page illustrations will be great. All of this makes great new portfolio pieces. It’s always a good idea to update your portfolio as you grow as an artist. The piece I am sharing today is going to be a really fun piece to work on. It started as a sketch on a scrap piece of paper. The final piece will be rather large, 7×20″ or so. I call it “The Rock Climber”. The little man at the top of the illustration looks so happy. He knew he could make it. Of course, once this is completed, I will share it on the blog. Until next time, so long everybody!

Welcome to the Timid Lion Blog!

Timid-Lion-2018-Orange-Circle

Hello all! Welcome to the first post here at the Timid Lion blog. I haven’t tried to do a blog in many moons so we shall see how this goes. I will try to post about projects that I am working on and showcase caricatures that folks have purchased through our Etsy page. Here is one or our latest pieces:

You can check out our Etsy shop by clicking here. My blog won’t be all about selling art though. My plan is to focus on projects that I am working on/have just finished. Recently, I had the opportunity to work on a few children’s books. I’ll plan to share info on those when I am allowed to do so. I am also working on my first children’s book as well. It has been a ton of fun. It is nice when you get to be completely in charge of the creative direction.

Thanks for reading. Check back often as I will try to post here several times per month. There may also be a youtube channel in the future. I’m still deciding on that one. Until next time, so long everybody!
