Caricatures of the Week #2

Hello once again everyone and welcome back! It’s Friday and that means it is time for the Caricatures of the Week! As I said in last week’s post, this will be a regular weekly gimmick here on the blog. I’ll be continually looking for new content and with as many caricatures as I draw every week, this just seemed like a natural fit.

Last week, I had my regular weekly/bi-weekly night of drawing at Pieces in St. Louis as well as an overnight lock-in for high school seniors. I was able to sleep all day Saturday so staying up overnight wasn’t as big of an ordeal as I thought it would be. I’ve selected a few from each of those gigs as well as a few of our Etsy store sales. You can always purchase a caricature for yourself over at Etsy. Art starts at just $10! Until next time, so long everybody 🙂

Let’s Go Blues!

Hello once again everyone and welcome back! Last night was the start of the 2019 Stanley Cup Playoffs. My beloved St. Louis Blues are back in this year after a miraculous turnaround. At the end of December, the Blues sat in last place in the entire NHL. Most of us were expecting to be high in the draft lottery and were looking at that #1 pick in the 2019 NHL Entry Draft. However, they turned it around and collected 60+ points in the second half and almost won the division.

Game 1 against the Winnipeg Jets kicked off the playoffs last night and what a game it was. I’ve always enjoyed playoff hockey as I don’t think there is anything like it. The Jets home crowd was fired up and in the classic “White Out” attire. The Blues gave up a goal in the first but climbed back, scoring 2 goals in the third period to win the game. It was a fun one to watch. Maybe I wouldn’t have thought so if the Blues lost, but they played a great game.

Here is a print that I created back in 2017. It’s called “Let’s Go Blues”. The idea is that Blues have just scored a goal and everyone is excited, except for three Blackhawks fans who are upset. I inked this on an 18×24 sheet of paper that comes in a frame that you buy from the store. As I was halfway through the inking process, my mother suddently (and unexpectedly) passed away. So this one was placed on the back burner for a while. I did eventually finish it and have slowly been finalizing it with color. So, I figured I would share the progress. There is still quite a bit to color. There are two more rows of people that I cropped out at the top of the print. Here is to another Blues win tomorrow night. Let’s Go Blues and until next time, so long everybody!

Future Projects Files

Hey Hey! Welcome back to another week here at the Timid Lion blog. I thought today I would start the week off by taking a peek into the future projects files. On my computer, I keep a folder labelled “Future Projects”. In that folder are scans from my sketchbook that I want to turn into finished pieces. Near my computer desk is a tower of milk crates where I keep my old sketchbooks. My goal is always to finish one sketchbook per month but it can be a difficult goal to achieve.

I digress. Here is a project from the future projects files that will be fun to work on. It is a character design based on a photo of me when I was 5 years old. I had just gotten a Nintendo Entertainment System for my birthday and I was playing Super Mario Bros. I’m still a huge Mario fan, I just completed Super Mario Odyssey a month ago. I still need to gather enough coins to purchase the remaining suits/hats/moons, but I’ll get there. Do you have a future projects box? What’s in it? I’d love to hear from you on this. Until next time, so long everybody!

Welcome to the Timid Lion Blog!

Timid-Lion-2018-Orange-Circle

Hello all! Welcome to the first post here at the Timid Lion blog. I haven’t tried to do a blog in many moons so we shall see how this goes. I will try to post about projects that I am working on and showcase caricatures that folks have purchased through our Etsy page. Here is one or our latest pieces:

You can check out our Etsy shop by clicking here. My blog won’t be all about selling art though. My plan is to focus on projects that I am working on/have just finished. Recently, I had the opportunity to work on a few children’s books. I’ll plan to share info on those when I am allowed to do so. I am also working on my first children’s book as well. It has been a ton of fun. It is nice when you get to be completely in charge of the creative direction.

Thanks for reading. Check back often as I will try to post here several times per month. There may also be a youtube channel in the future. I’m still deciding on that one. Until next time, so long everybody!
