Let’s Go Blues!

Hello once again everyone and welcome back! Last night was the start of the 2019 Stanley Cup Playoffs. My beloved St. Louis Blues are back in this year after a miraculous turnaround. At the end of December, the Blues sat in last place in the entire NHL. Most of us were expecting to be high in the draft lottery and were looking at that #1 pick in the 2019 NHL Entry Draft. However, they turned it around and collected 60+ points in the second half and almost won the division.

Game 1 against the Winnipeg Jets kicked off the playoffs last night and what a game it was. I’ve always enjoyed playoff hockey as I don’t think there is anything like it. The Jets home crowd was fired up and in the classic “White Out” attire. The Blues gave up a goal in the first but climbed back, scoring 2 goals in the third period to win the game. It was a fun one to watch. Maybe I wouldn’t have thought so if the Blues lost, but they played a great game.

Here is a print that I created back in 2017. It’s called “Let’s Go Blues”. The idea is that Blues have just scored a goal and everyone is excited, except for three Blackhawks fans who are upset. I inked this on an 18×24 sheet of paper that comes in a frame that you buy from the store. As I was halfway through the inking process, my mother suddently (and unexpectedly) passed away. So this one was placed on the back burner for a while. I did eventually finish it and have slowly been finalizing it with color. So, I figured I would share the progress. There is still quite a bit to color. There are two more rows of people that I cropped out at the top of the print. Here is to another Blues win tomorrow night. Let’s Go Blues and until next time, so long everybody!

Drawing Live Saturday!

Hello once again everybody and welcome back. We have a busy weekend coming up. Saturday will be a marathon of caricature drawing. We will be back at Pieces in St. Louis, so if you are in the area head in for a free caricature and a Bomb Pop Cocktail. They are a best seller. They must be as I see many of them every Saturday night.

After we wrap up there, we will heading to Springfield, Illinois for our first overnight lock-in of the season. They are always a grind and the drive back home is usually tough. I’ll try to stay up Friday night and sleep during the day on Saturday. If you are interested in having Timid Lion draw at your next event, contact us for pricing information! We would love to be there, no matter how big or small your event is. Until next time, so long everybody!

Happy Friday!

Hello once again ladies and gentleman and welcome back. Today is a fun day. I spent the morning walking to my nearest print store only to realize my flash drive doesn’t work and the file I needed to print wasn’t in my dropbox folder. So I walked back home, then back to the print store, then the post office. Oh well, it is a beautiful day.

Anyway, now that I am back in the studio, I have organized my receipts for my taxes and worked on my book. I’ve also customized some toy wrestling rings for my collection, which has been a ton of fun. Pics coming next week 🙂 Here is a quick character color test from my Socks book. Until next time, so long everybody!

“Untitled Book” 2019 – Coming Soon!

RIP King Kong Buddy!

Those who know me, know that I am a huge wrestling fan. I have been since I was a child. As long as I have been forming memories, wrestling has been in my life. Growing up in St. Louis, we were fortunate to get live shows from Jim Crockett Promotions and the NWA (later World Championship Wrestling) as well as the World Wrestling Federation. That has continued to this day. We are still lucky enough to get a few shows a year from the WWE.

When I was younger, I loved collecting the action figures. It was a fun hobby for me and a lot of money from my first job went to add more to my collection. As I got older, the quest for a career in the arts took precedence. Now that my career is starting to become stable, I have started collecting again. I’ll make a post about that at another time because I have been into it hot and heavy over the past month 🙂

King Kong Bundy action figure. Released in 1985 by LJN as a part of Series 2 of the “Wrestling Superstars” line. These were my very first wrestling action figures. I’m still in the process of finishing my collection. Only 27 more to go 🙂

I was sad to hear of the passing of King Kong Bundy. Bundy and I shared first names. I had a chance to meet him for a picture when I was very little, maybe 4 or so. Sometime around 1987 or 1988, he visited a local car show and my family went to see him. We waited in line and when we finally got to the front, I was very nervous. Bundy was 6’4″ tall and weighed 458 lbs. A man mountain to say the least. My aunt Cheryl mentioned to Bundy that my first name was also Chris. He became so cheerful. I think he could tell I was scared. “That’s a great name buddy! Come on over here and let’s take a picture.” I’ve never forgotten how nice he was. It left an impression on me. Treat all people with kindness and respect. Thanks for the life lesson King Kong. You may have been a villain in the ring, but I remember you as a big ole’ teddy bear. Rest easy my friend.

Welcome to the Timid Lion Blog!

Hello all! Welcome to the first post here at the Timid Lion blog. I haven’t tried to do a blog in many moons so we shall see how this goes. I will try to post about projects that I am working on and showcase caricatures that folks have purchased through our Etsy page. Here is one or our latest pieces:

You can check out our Etsy shop by clicking here. My blog won’t be all about selling art though. My plan is to focus on projects that I am working on/have just finished. Recently, I had the opportunity to work on a few children’s books. I’ll plan to share info on those when I am allowed to do so. I am also working on my first children’s book as well. It has been a ton of fun. It is nice when you get to be completely in charge of the creative direction.

Thanks for reading. Check back often as I will try to post here several times per month. There may also be a youtube channel in the future. I’m still deciding on that one. Until next time, so long everybody!
