Caricatures of the Week #2

Hello once again everyone and welcome back! It’s Friday and that means it is time for the Caricatures of the Week! As I said in last week’s post, this will be a regular weekly gimmick here on the blog. I’ll be continually looking for new content and with as many caricatures as I draw every week, this just seemed like a natural fit.

Last week, I had my regular weekly/bi-weekly night of drawing at Pieces in St. Louis as well as an overnight lock-in for high school seniors. I was able to sleep all day Saturday so staying up overnight wasn’t as big of an ordeal as I thought it would be. I’ve selected a few from each of those gigs as well as a few of our Etsy store sales. You can always purchase a caricature for yourself over at Etsy. Art starts at just $10! Until next time, so long everybody 🙂

Caricatures of the Week!

Hello once again and welcome back! It’s time for the first edition of “Caricatures of the Week”! Each week I draw dozens of caricatures, be it through our Etsy page or at live events. We sell caricatures through our Etsy site and they start at just $10! You send us the photos, we draw the art and mail it to your house. It has been a ton of fun. Since we have so much content in that area, I thought it would be fun to share some of my favorites each Friday. It should be a fun way to end the week. You can always purchase a caricature of your own by using the links at the top of our page. Of course, we are always open for commission as well. Send us a ROAR! to get started. In the meantime, please enjoy some of the fun caricatures that were produced in the past 7 days! Until next time, so long everybody!

Drawing Live Saturday!

Hello once again everybody and welcome back. We have a busy weekend coming up. Saturday will be a marathon of caricature drawing. We will be back at Pieces in St. Louis, so if you are in the area head in for a free caricature and a Bomb Pop Cocktail. They are a best seller. They must be as I see many of them every Saturday night.

After we wrap up there, we will heading to Springfield, Illinois for our first overnight lock-in of the season. They are always a grind and the drive back home is usually tough. I’ll try to stay up Friday night and sleep during the day on Saturday. If you are interested in having Timid Lion draw at your next event, contact us for pricing information! We would love to be there, no matter how big or small your event is. Until next time, so long everybody!

We Can Always Be Better!

Hello once again everybody and welcome back! I’m still not sure what to do with this blog. Long interactive posts are probably the way to go, with a ton of detailed information on the creative process and what is going on with Timid Lion. Ideally, I’d be typing up a few posts days in advance of them being posted. Anyhoo. I’ve been staying busy with caricatures recently. Our Etsy store has been on fire since Christmas and it has really helped. Of course, we encourage you to head over and grab yourself a custom caricature as they make great gifts and start at just $10 😀

I’ve also been busy working on my first children’s book. Recently, I’ve shared a few pieces from it. It’s been a really fun project to work on and I’m really excited to debut it. There are only a few pieces posted here on the blog as I don’t want to give the whole book away. Today’s piece is of a Fairy that visits. I’ve really developed a nice style over the past several years. It definitely hasn’t happened overnight. From trial and error, I’ve found a really fun way to combine traditional and digital art. The finished product is insanely colorful and visually interesting. I’d like to think that this style will become what Timid Lion is known for. I’m putting together this book more as a portfolio piece that can be shown to illustrator reps. I’ve got several other projects in my “Future Projects File”, which I discussed on my blog yesterday, that will utilize this style.

As I continue to try to find myself as an artist, I think finding something that I can claim as my style… my calling card, is hugely beneficial. There are so many talented artists in this world. Finding a way to create art that is uniquely yours and stands out above the crowd is an increasingly difficult thing to do. Practice makes perfect and I feel that is imperative to work on projects that further your skills. You can always learn and you can always improve. This goes not just for our artwork but our lives in general. We can always be better. Until next time, so long everybody.

Win for Glenn!

Everyone who knows me, knows that I am a huge St. Louis Blues fan. I started watching in 1995 when I was 10 years old. It was the best introduction to being a Blues fan. The team traded for “The Great One” near the end of the ’95-’96 season. With Wayne Gretzky, Brett Hull and Grant Fuhr it looked like we were headed for a deep playoff run. Of course, we would go on to be eliminated in double overtime of Game 7 in the Western Conference Semifinal by a Steve Yzerman blast. I still haven’t forgiven him or the Detroit Red Wings.

I digress. As a Blues fan, one of the best parts of seeing a game is witnessing Charles Glenn sing the Star Spangled Banner. I’m not an overly patriotic man so I could live without pregame anthems but if we must have one, Charles is the guy to perform it. He never fails to hit it out of the park. He has announced that this will be his last season, after dealing with some major health issues. One can hope that the Blues will fire off a nice playoff run to extend his anthem singing career 🙂

Here is an illustration of Charles that I created a few years ago. Thanks for the memories Charles. I’ll be sad to see you go. Good luck to your replacement.

Live Caricatures at Pieces!

Hello once again ladies and gentleman and welcome back. After a successful night of drawing caricatures last Saturday, the good folks and Pieces have invited me back to draw again. I’ll be there tomorrow from 5pm-9:30pm. I’ll be taking photos and will share the best of the best here on the blog. In the meantime, I’ve still been chugging away on my children’s book. I don’t want to share too much of that yet but I hope to have it completed by the end of April. Then I will open preorders through the Timid Lion shop. Stay tuned for details! Until next time, so long everybody!
